AMsS [copy of ALS by John Adams to George Washington, in Washington's hand], 1798 October 9 : Quincy.

Washington has here made a copy in his own hand of a letter written to him by John Adams, while the latter was President. The letter regards Washington's request to be informed whether Adams' determination to reverse the order of three Major Generals was final, and whether Adams intended to appoint another Adjutant General without Washington's concurrence.
